Motivation for this change

Since a string freeze occurred recently, 2.10 will be released soon. I have packaged the unstable version in master...jtojnar:gimp-2.10 but these changes make sense on their own.

• Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nox --run "nox-review wip"
