Motivation for this change
Stable point release so should go into 17.03 - it also now runs tests which we didn't do before.
I have it running here on 17.03 on our HTPC and it works fine.
I have a separate patch that moves to cmake and fixes a bunch of missing dependencies but that is too late for 17.03.
