Motivation for this change
The reason for this is a failed build test on Darwin. There is an extremely minor floating point error (0.2e-50) which causes the failure. As a result of this it breaks everything that depends on it, including popular packages such as matplotlib.
The reason this error occurs seems to be something in the nix build step. Compiling the package seperately (outside of nix) works fine, unfortunately I have nowhere near the required level of nix knowledge to debug this.
Disabling tests on Darwin fixes the issue adequately and matplotlib builds properly.
