Instructions to test this update (click to expand)

Either download from Cachix:

nix-store -r /nix/store/kkg6dlk0kdrlw8ms2m1vx66dfwxdzcsl-gtk-doc-1.30 \
  --option binary-caches 'https://cache.nixos.org/ https://r-ryantm.cachix.org/' \
  --option trusted-public-keys '
  r-ryantm.cachix.org-1:gkUbLkouDAyvBdpBX0JOdIiD2/DP1ldF3Z3Y6Gqcc4c=
  cache.nixos.org-1:6NCHdD59X431o0gWypbMrAURkbJ16ZPMQFGspcDShjY=
  '

(r-ryantm's Cachix cache is only trusted for this store-path realization.)

Or, build yourself:

nix-build -A gtk-doc https://github.com/r-ryantm/nixpkgs/archive/878e5e1591b443c0c20a6f5345559ad9ec66899a.tar.gz

After you've downloaded or built it, look at the files and if there are any, run the binaries:

ls -la /nix/store/kkg6dlk0kdrlw8ms2m1vx66dfwxdzcsl-gtk-doc-1.30
ls -la /nix/store/kkg6dlk0kdrlw8ms2m1vx66dfwxdzcsl-gtk-doc-1.30/bin

cc @pSub for testing.

There will be some nontrivial fixes needed together with this, most likely. Cross-ref: #62079

Should I re-spin and gather fixes to see how it goes? I'm not sure about the fixes ever being nontrivial though (#62079 (comment)).

Or perhaps wait for the next release?

It certainly still seems alive upstream, so I expect a bit of delay might save us some work: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk-doc/commit/12d9a698fb – though perhaps we do know fixes for (almost) everything already; I didn't look too carefully before doing the reverts. If you want to try it now, I'd probably create a separate single-platform jobset on Hydra just for this.

Sounds good, do know that I did actually investigate rather carefully even though I was rather busy with my residency in Barcalona... (trying to be prompt after the change was merged was difficult).
I don't have any access to the hydra infrastructure currently so someone would have to configure that for me on my behalf or grant that.

I can create and modify jobsets on Hydra (easily), so it's enough to just ping me.
