Either download from Cachix:

nix-store -r /nix/store/jcx1wmxz88iq4w7a1rc76wb65zjd9pza-alsa-lib-1.1.9 \
  --option binary-caches 'https://cache.nixos.org/ https://r-ryantm.cachix.org/' \
  --option trusted-public-keys '
  r-ryantm.cachix.org-1:gkUbLkouDAyvBdpBX0JOdIiD2/DP1ldF3Z3Y6Gqcc4c=
  cache.nixos.org-1:6NCHdD59X431o0gWypbMrAURkbJ16ZPMQFGspcDShjY=
  '

(r-ryantm's Cachix cache is only trusted for this store-path realization.)

Or, build yourself:

nix-build -A alsaLib https://github.com/r-ryantm/nixpkgs/archive/a1683bd3accae35494f36051228170dd01dfd0b3.tar.gz

After you've downloaded or built it, look at the files and if there are any, run the binaries:

ls -la /nix/store/jcx1wmxz88iq4w7a1rc76wb65zjd9pza-alsa-lib-1.1.9
ls -la /nix/store/jcx1wmxz88iq4w7a1rc76wb65zjd9pza-alsa-lib-1.1.9/bin

This commit broke the sound on both of my nixos machines. pulse will no longer recognize any output devices, instead it only lists "Dummy Output".

Since alsa-lib has no listed maintainer, CC @MarcWeber @fps @AndersonTorres. Any idea how to debug this?

Pulseaudio can't load the Alsa library which has an unresolved symbol named pa_alsa_ucm_device_update_available.

Found a similar problem report:
