Motivation for this change

Old version of FT8 protocol was obsoleted on 2019-01-01.

Because of this, it would be useful to cherry-pick this commit onto 18.09 as well. Have tested build and execution against both master and nixos-18.09.

Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS
    • macOS
    • other Linux distributions
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nox --run "nox-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after)
  • Assured whether relevant documentation is up to date
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

Old version of FT8 protocol was obsoleted on 2019-01-01.

Thanks! Also, I just noticed somebody else had opened an almost identical PR #52710 that updated the version but didn't remove the git dependency. That can be closed as a duplicate.

Thx for the proper patch that removes the git dependency..
BTW has anybody tried to connect to Transmitter via a CAT interface ?
It looks like the nix version of WSJTX can read the frequency from the transmitter but cannot set the frequency. This feature works with the Ubuntu version.
(I had tested with my patch with is almost identical and with a Yaesu FT-840. I don't have access to a transmitter at the moment though)
WSJTX with CAT and the FT-840 works also.

I am able to set the frequency on my FT-897 from within WSJTX.
