This is great! Thanks for doing it.

Another thing that comes to mind is that the current approach of wrapping a derivation is not as composable as it could be, for example it's harder to use with other derivation wrapping things like building haskell/python packages .

Yes. I assume there'll be some more variants that fill in over time as people identify itches to scratch with it. In the interim, it's possible to just use the resholve package itself and directly invoke in the appropriate phase as needed.
