Firefox and Thunder time out nearly everytime. Hopefully giving them
more resources will prevent this from happening.

Motivation for this change
Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS linux)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS
    • macOS
    • other Linux distributions
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after)
  • Ensured that relevant documentation is up to date
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

🤔 yes, we might try that. Though it probably makes most sense to keep this the same also in firefoxPackages.

People wanting to build themselves may notice this, as they'd have to explicitly set the feature on (some of) their machines. I don't see that as a significant down-side, as these builds really are expensive.

I think this makes sense, I agree perhaps it should be set for firefox too. cc. @andir

I think big-parallel is set by default nowadays.

I added firefox(-esr) to the same commit.

Do you know if it seems to have helped?

I don't dare to say, we haven't had any mass rebuilds yet.

Too many time-outs on 20.09, so let's try this also here.
