Motivation for this change

This simplifies testing changes to the tailscale service on a local machine. You can use this as such:

let
  tailscale_patched = magic {};
in {
  services.tailscale = {
    enable = true;
    package = tailscale_patched;
  };
};

The default configuration uses the tailscale package, as it does currently.

Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS linux)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS
    • macOS
    • other Linux distributions
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after)
  • Ensured that relevant documentation is up to date
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

LGTM. Why don't we have this for every service by default, I wonder? 😺

LGTM, but you'll need to fix your editor settings to appease CI. Thanks!

I removed the empty commit and fixed up the editor config changes. The changes look good and I wish we had that for every single module in nixos.
