A tool that would record the following:

  • *IDN?
  • *OPT?
  • connectivity details: e.g. for Ethernet: whether it can use raw TCP/IP sockets or requires VXI-11
  • for Siglent scopes: a dump of "C0: WF? DESC" to see if there are any differences between versions
  • any other kind of SCPI commands that can be used to figure out the capabilities of a scope
  • which scopes of what brand are actually based on scopes on another brand (Siglent <> LeCroy)

That data returned by such a tool would be useful for developers to avoid making assumptions about a brand of scope that aren't universal for that brand etc.
