Motivation for this change

hydrogen has infrequent releases (the last stable was in 2016).

This version switches from Qt 4 to Qt 5 (#33248).

Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS linux)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS
    • macOS
    • other Linux distributions
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after)
  • Ensured that relevant documentation is up to date
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

Sorry, something went wrong.

When I build this with nix-review pr 85454 and run it with ./results/hydrogen-unstable/bin/hydrogen, I get:

qt.qpa.plugin: Could not find the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in ""
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Aborted (core dumped)

Unverified

I have just added wrapQtAppsHook to fix that.

This release does not contain GMkit (the old default drum kit), so it can't play old projects that use it until you install GMkit yourself. (There does not seem to be an automatic migration to the new default GMRockKit.) GMkit can be extracted from the old archive and saved in ~/.hydrogen/data/drumkits/GMkit
