Instructions to test this update (click to expand)

Either download from Cachix:

nix-store -r /nix/store/c74ckmmmx4xrc6qafwizq28ll734x2hm-frostwire-6.7.9 \
  --option binary-caches 'https://cache.nixos.org/ https://r-ryantm.cachix.org/' \
  --option trusted-public-keys '
  r-ryantm.cachix.org-1:gkUbLkouDAyvBdpBX0JOdIiD2/DP1ldF3Z3Y6Gqcc4c=
  cache.nixos.org-1:6NCHdD59X431o0gWypbMrAURkbJ16ZPMQFGspcDShjY=
  '

(r-ryantm's Cachix cache is only trusted for this store-path realization.)

Or, build yourself:

nix-build -A frostwire-bin https://github.com/r-ryantm/nixpkgs/archive/c36891f1b5a897a206766f3dce338e98f842e88e.tar.gz

After you've downloaded or built it, look at the files and if there are any, run the binaries:

ls -la /nix/store/c74ckmmmx4xrc6qafwizq28ll734x2hm-frostwire-6.7.9
ls -la /nix/store/c74ckmmmx4xrc6qafwizq28ll734x2hm-frostwire-6.7.9/bin

cc @gavinrogers for testing.

Builds, but fails to run on Ubuntu. Not sure if this is specific to my setup. built and tested via nix-review.

Something went wrong with FrostWire.
Maybe you're using the wrong version of Java?
(FrostWire is tested against and works best with with Sun's JRE, Java 1.7+)
The version of Java in your PATH is:
openjdk version "1.8.0_212"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_212-ga)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.212-bga, mixed mode)

@tomberek do you have the same behavior with v6.7.4 currently in nixpkgs?

@tomberek

Yes, so at least it's not a regression, but ?broken? on non-NixOS.

@tomberek could you open an issue to track this problem?
Since it exists with previous versions already, let's not block the version update for all users on it.

@mmahut https://dl.frostwire.com/frostwire/6.8.3/frostwire-8.8.3.noarch.tar.gz doesn't exist. All checks were failing. Plus it fails to run with Java 8 and now requires JRE to be Java11+
