Motivation for this change

Using Linux 5.17 and evdi 1.7 resulted in compilation errors.

Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS linux)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
    • i loaded the resulting kernel module if that counts.
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after)
  • Ensured that relevant documentation is up to date
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

I am tempted to wait for a 1.9.0 release, where they have support for linux kernel 5.9.
But I will test this once I get home, and see if everything works with my dock :)

The update breaks DisplayLink. We need to either have two versions of evdi, or wait for a new release... :)

@samsartor there is no need to close it as such, as it can stay open to remind us to check every once in a while :) But completely up to you, to do so :)
