Motivation for this change
Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS linux)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS
    • macOS
    • other Linux distributions
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after)
  • Ensured that relevant documentation is up to date
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

Nice, this definitely gets us closer. Unfortunately it looks like there are some bits which are harder to work around, like the futimens and utimensat calls which require the 10.13 SDK. I think any patches to add macos support should be upstreamed since they'd end up being pretty extensive.

@r-burns Is the 10.13 SDK available for use on nixpkgs yet?

Nope, we're still on 10.12. I don't know what the timescale is on the 10.13 update but I know it's nontrivial. I'll open an issue for this and see if I can get some more info.
