  1. Merge: first-parent history cleanup 

    ... by "merging" an older version of the same `staging-next` branch.
Perhaps some people don't care about this but it helps me quit a bit.

If I looked right, the b981eca0 commit has only one child (b3aed16)
which merged the last staging-next iteration into master.
