The 2021 Steam Awards are now open for nominations, and I've seen several games post announcements asking their players to nominate them for an award. I posted an announcement in the Discord server (speaking as a community moderator, not as anyone affiliated with OpenTTD), but I think it might be good to have one on Steam too.

Most awards are for games released in 2021, which OpenTTD only technically qualifies for since that's the year it came to Steam (the store page says it was released in 2004, so not sure why Steam is confused there). However, there is one category which is open to games released any year: Labor of Love, which has the description:

This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the debut of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.

If that doesn't describe OpenTTD, what does?

Steam appears to offer a "Steam Award Nomination Request" post template which includes a voting box in the post. For example, see Dorfromantik's post: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1455840/view/3117049349008559397

I asked @TrueBrain about posting a similar announcement, and he suggested I write something and run it by other developers. Below is my suggested text, with imagery similar to the style of other announcement posts.

Vote for OpenTTD as best "Labor of Love" game!

Nominations are now open for the 2021 Steam Awards, and OpenTTD is eligible! Since we released on Steam in April, the game technically qualifies for any award, but we hope you'll agree that "Labor of Love" is the best fit for the time, talent, and passion put in by developers, contributors, NewGRF and Game Script creators, and players alike.

Thoughts?

I don't mind a little bit of self-advertising, so, eh, why not?

Seems we were really late to this party. Nominations already closed ... sorry. Didn't have time earlier to make this happening, but in hindsight, doing it 2 days for the deadline wouldn't really have made a difference ...

Better timing next year? :D
