I replaced the principia files with the ones from the listed patch. The glitch still occured. It appears the the trigger is stage separation after I have task-switched between KSP and the web browser. I will have to reload the pre-error save if you want me to try and capture it in the log. My original Ovok config is shown in the file OPM_Patch.txt. I followed your suggestion and changes Ovok's orbit as seen in OPM_Patch2.txt. Despite the differences, the instability occurs at the exact same time and location. |
Note that when you install a new patch for your solar system you need to start a new save, because the configuration of the solar system is recorded in the save. If you just drop a new patch in your installation, it has no effect on existing saves. At this point we'll need a journal to be able to debug the "faster than light" problem. Please follow these instructions to produce one and upload it to some file-sharing site. |
Was probably #2611. No further life signs, closing. |

I have stumbled upon a feature (bug) and with some interesting consequences. I'm curious if anyone else has seen this behavior. It has happened twice to me and I still do not know what exactly is triggering it, but it appears to be some sort of memory/buffer overflow. Prior, I have played KSP 1.8.1 with zero issues for several hours. Now, I have the web browser open (it doesn't seem to matter where i'm surfing at that moment) in the background. I flip back and forth between KSP and the browser before a mission. The rocket launches and runs the mission profile as usual. When you select recover vessel, it's noticeably longer than usual to go back to the space center screen. Principia now announces that planet(s) have gone unstable and spent parts of your ship are now traveling at ludicrous speed. If you go back to the space center screen, you only get the star background. The screendump shows the effects of the "feature". If taken at face value, its says that my spent boosters are now leaving the kerbin system at .3c after only 2min1sec MET (and Ovok has gone wild). I'm not sure if it's a ksp glitch that carries over to principia or vice versa.
The workaround for this feature is rather simple, just restart KSP and go back to the save file before the glitch. You will lose your latest work, but its not a great loss if you save often.
