This does not actually implement any tests, but it adds most (if not all) of the test gear so that integration tests can be written.
I'm submitting only a partial fix for this since (a) I'm not entirely sure how much time I'll have to finish this on Friday/Monday and (b) I'm not entirely sure what you would like to test.
