NSChat Rules

The NSChat rules are based on the Android room rules.

How to get write access:

  • Maintain a decent reputation (above 100-ish).
  • Use a custom username.
  • Ask and answer questions well.
  • Don't be a help vampire.

In general, you'll be allowed in as long as you don't look toxic. So, avoid doing things that'd make you look unappealing to talk to.

The rules for the room are as follows:

  • Do not ask your question here in the first instance. Create a question on the main site and add a link to it here.
  • Do not ask questions unless they have been thoroughly researched. You should be able to answer the question: http://www.whathaveyoutried.com.
  • Please do not ask for tutorials or sample code in the first instance. We're here to learn and help, not to provide a personalised Google Search Interface.
  • Refer to the documentation before asking a question.
  • Use English as the main language. That's not to say you can't talk in Hindi or Chinese or French, but most of the conversation should be in English. If you want to have a private conversation then take it to another room.
  • Use English to the best of your ability. No chat-speak - it's difficult for folks to read.
  • Please don't use dotted sentences.
  • Do not paste code longer than three lines and 60 characters into the chat. If you need to share code, add it to your question or put it in a gist or Pastie or Pastebin
  • Avoid pinging people unless it's absolutely necessary. Trying to get people to look at your question is never absolutely necessary and is really just annoying.
  • Don't ask if you can ask a question, just ask the question. You don't need to direct it at a particular person.
  • Do not ping people if you don't get a response. That's also annoying.
  • Apple vs Android vs Windows - Yawn. As with religion and politics, it isn't possible to have an objective debate about it. Don't even bother.
  • This is still a part of Stack Overflow. You don't have to be perfectly nice, but be honest. Swearing, racism, sexism, and other general creepiness will not be tolerated, and nil will throw you to Shub-Niggurath at the first sign of bad behavior.
