http://karaf.apache.org/manual/latest-2.2.x/users-guide/remote-console.html

There is a default karaf/karaf user available by default in 2.x - 4.x that can be accessed over an SSH instance on 8081/TCP. The shell is a Karaf wrapper that allows everything from shell commands to OSGI stuff and gathering system information. Numerous useful modules could come from this. Write them.

Please forgive what might be a stupid question, but why? What does Karaf give us that might not otherwise be better exposed via JMX beans?

Sure -- most or all of this functionality may be exposed via JMX beans but it may not be or may not be accessible for whatever reason.

Add to JRuby? I'm confused. Perhaps you can make a prototype to show us what you mean?

Oh wow. I just realized what I did -- I filed this in the wrong project!

Pardon the noise. I've filed it, correctly, as rapid7/metasploit-framework#4358
